How to Repair a Washing Machine that Won’t Spin

Our old GE washer decided it didn’t want to spin anymore. I didn’t like the thought of replacing the washing machine or paying big bucks for someone else to fix it for me. First, I unplugged the power cord. I turned off the water supply valves and disconnected the two supply hoses. I had put a towel under them to catch the water that came out. Then I tilted the washer forwards onto the front side so I could get to the panel on the bottom of it. I removed a handful of 1/4 inch screws and removed the pan on the bottom. Then I could see that the belt was badly worn and had fallen off. I bought a new belt from a local appliance parts retailer for about $15.00. List price online was about $13.00, but I didn’t want to wait or pay shipping. I wrapped the belt around the smaller pulley on the motor. Then I started the belt on the larger pulley and rotated it until the belt wrapped all of the way around. I replaced the pan on the bottom and tilted it back upright. I reconnected the supply hoses and turned on the water. After I checked for leaks, I Plugged up the power cord. I turned the knob to the spin cycle and verified that it had worked. That was all it took. I hope this helps if anyone ever has a similar problem. Thanks for watching! For automobile repair how-to videos and occasional firearms & shooting videos please subscribe.
